Thing 22 - Final blog for Sot23Things

I believe the Sot23Things programme helped the library staff to develop their existing skills and understand about different tools of Web 2.0 technologies.

The Sot23Things experience has been an enjoyable journey. I have always been interested in using the Web 2.0 technology tools and I felt very positive about using them. In this journey we all contributed to the Sot23 Things and learned from each other. There was also always someone to ask for guidance. Some of the Things were new to some of us and known to others. Some of the Things were fun for some but boring for others. We might continue to use some of the Things and we might not use some of them at all but the fact is we all raised our awareness about 23 of the most popular Web 2.0 technology tools and we can always suggest the right tool to the right person eventhough we don’t use them ourselves.

Thing 21 - Google Drive

Yes a good tool indeed. It's a fantastic tool for storing and sharing documents. It is an ideal tool for  saving space on your PC,
I originally created documentation for Thing 4 - Netvibes using Google Drive but I couldn't finish it as it was so frustrating to modify something on the document.
Also, it's a shame it can't be shared by Blog.

Thing 20 - SlideShare - YES

A big YES to the SlideShare - one of the Top 5 of sot23things indeed.
I will definitely use it for sharing my training presentations with library users in near future. It saves space on your PC as you don't need to save your large documents on your PC anymore.
Uploaded one of my training PowerPoints to SlideShare
How useful using SlideShare will be to share links of all types of media files, including presentations (PowerPoint & Keynote) and documents (Word & PDF) with our library users. Click here to see more benefits of the SlideShare or just see the summary of its benefits shown in this screen shot:

One week later.........
wow...My PowerPoint was viewed by 139 people...hope some of the viewers were my colleagues.

Thing 18 - QR codes

FancyQRCode - Online QR code generator with colors, effects, logo and more
Just visited the above website and created the following QR codes for my Email, my Blog and NHS E-resources Netvibes :-) You need to scan them with your QR reader on your smart phone to find out more...It is also helpful to add these codes as stickers to our print copies of books which are also available online. We are currently practising this at HSL :-) Another suggestion (not serious though!) is:
To become an approachable librarian, it would be a good idea to wear Tshirt with Email QR printed at the back!!
May be only for University Open days

Thing 17 - Creative Commons

Big Ben
Very good and clear documentation, thanks to Ric. the Creative Commons provides a free, easy-to-use way of giving the public a permission to share and use our creative work — on conditions of our choices. it is great. Using it in Flickr is very helpful as it gives you more control on your collection of images. I also enjoyed visiting Wikimedia Commons for finding my favourite images of the historical UK buildings and monuments. I learned a lot about it by reading sot23thing blogs - Azadeh Brown's post about her experience with copyright issues was really helpful.
